Here you will find regular updates of our current learning, ways to help at home and topic knowledge organisers. If possible please find time to have a look at these updates especially the photographs with your child. Forest School

 Library Day is Tuesday - Please remember your book if you have taken one home.
 
Forest School  is on Friday Afternoons - Each child needs Wellington Boots, waterproof trousers and coat and appropriate clothing for the weather 
 
Dance  is on Thursday morning - No special clothing is required. 
 
Week 13
 
This week has been busy with lots more Christmas crafts. We all enjoyed rolling balls in paint and rolling them across Christmas shapes. We also got sticky making Christmas elf hats. We wore our hats at Christmas lunch on Thursday where we also wore some great Christmas jumpers. Our sensory story this week has been the Christmas Nativity story where we use knitted characters and animals to tell the story. We have also been singing lots of Christmas songs and learning the Makaton signs as we sing. 
Week 12
 
This week we all enjoyed a very successful decoration morning where we were joined by some parents to paint bubble wrap Christmas trees, sticky stained glass Christmas trees, explore sparkly shaving foam and make paper plate Christmas wreaths. We also shared a new sensory story called 'Mr Gumpy's Outing', where Mr Gumpy welcomes lots of people and animals on to his boat but eventually it tips and they all get very wet! We also got very wet playing with boats in water! 
Week 11
This week have continued to have fun with the animals from the sensory story during messy play. More of the class have explored the play dough with the animals as well as having great fun playing with them in sticky jelly! In Maths we loved throwing the giant dice again and then taking Happyland people on and off the bus and counting how many we had left on the bus. Soft play came to the class this week and lots of us became more adventurous, sliding down the wedge and spinning on the turn table. 
Week 10
 
This week we have enjoyed a new sensory story called 'The Lion on the Bus'. It is a variation of the song 'The Wheels on the Bus'. Alongside the story we have enjoyed playing with the bus and roadway and wild animals. On Wednesday lots of us explored putting wild animals in gloop (Corn flour and water) and got very messy! During soft play we are having lots of fun using new balance sensory beams. We can walk on them and feel different textures under our feet. 
Week 9
 
This week we continued to listen to the bear hunt story, bringing inside long grass, mud, water, twigs, ice and teddy bears for us to explore. We told the story to a drum beat which the children loved.
 
In Maths we have been rolling a large foam dice and counting the dots, building towers and counting the blocks and exploring the giant Numicon.  We have also been counting as we bounce and step on stepping stones during sensory circuits. 
 
During messy play we have experienced dough and creating different textures by pressing different objects into the dough like a potato masher. This week some new wall toys arrived for the corridor. We have all loved exploring the rainbow, crocodile and light up cogs. 
Week 8
 
This week we have started to learn about journeys with 'We're going on a bear hunt' sensory story. We went outside to experience swishy swashy grass, mud, sticks and twigs snapping under our feet and a game of hide and seek with the bear! On Wednesday we celebrated Guy Fawkes day by watching fireworks on the smartboard, drinking hot chocolate and painting firework pictures with a bit of added sparkle!
Week 7
 
This week we explored Autumn fruits and vegetables. We loved lifting, moving, rolling, feeling, bouncing and painting different pumpkins and squashes.
 
 
We listened to a rhyme about 5 large pumpkins and how each one rolled away. On Monday we had our first soft play session in the studio.
 
 
 
We loved rolling in the big ring, sliding, climbing up and how ramps and balancing on new sensory beams.
 
 
 
We finished the week with a sensory story about Autumn which included collecting acorns, apples and pumpkins, baking biscuits and wrapping up warm outside as the weather gets colder. 
 
 
Week 6
 
This week we listened to a sensory story about a leaf man who goes on a journey as he is blown around in the wind. He visits ducks, cows, birds, mice amongst the pumpkins and fish in the lake. We listened to sounds as he visited each animal and place. We made our own leaf man with autumn leaves and got very sticky with the glue! We also used paint sticks to print with leaves and pressed leaves into dough.
 
 
In maths we counted 10 apples and listened to a story about what happens to each one as they fall  from the tree.
 
 
 
We have also enjoyed being out in the Forest School area amongst the signs of Autumn. In sensory circuits we are all beginning to learn what we like to keep us calm. For some of us it is watching something spin, balancing on a balance board and rolling on top of a large ball. 
 
 
Week 5
This week we had a lovely time playing in sparkly water while singing the number song, '5 little ducks'. A blue sparkly mummy duck was definitely a favourite! This has also allowed us to continue to learn the Makaton sign for 'Mummy' while learning about families as part of our topic 'all about me'. We have also continued to explore sensory objects while listening to the story 'Owl Babies'. 
Week 4
 
This week we listened to a new sensory story called 'Owl Babies' to begin thinking about families. We loved exploring twigs, leaves and feathers as we listened to the story. In messy play we also used feathers with natural coloured dough. In art we made patterns in primary colour paint, red, blue and yellow. 
 
 
In maths we acted out 5 little monkey's jumping on the bed with 5 cuddly toys and the cushions and beanbags. Some of us have been ordering numbers and Numicon shapes to 10 during TEACCH time. 
 
 
This week we began taking in part in sensory massage sessions where we listened to calm music and took part in deep pressure and grounding exercises. 
 

Week 3

 

This week we have been learning more about parts of our body and what they can do. We listened to a story called 'Eyes, Nose, Fingers, Toes', where we counted fingers and toes, blinked our eyes and pointed to our backs and tummies. 

 

We looked at pictures of eyes, noses, ears and mouths and chose some to stick on pictures of faces. 

 

We all had fun foot printing with orange paint and creating green handprints, which are going to be cut out to create carrots for a display at the harvest festival in Ely cathedral. We have also explored cooked spaghetti and painting primary colours using large paint brushes during messy play sessions this week.

 

 

In maths we sang the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 counting song with fish and also explored shape and size with the toys in the environment. 

Week 2
This week we have been learning to look during short group sessions like circle time, bucket and singing. We have watched lots of exciting objects that spin, make noises and hop during bucket time. We have listened to some songs about ourselves including head, shoulders, knees and toes and looked at x-ray pictures of bones. We also listened to the sensory story 'Funnybones'. We have experienced lots of different textures during messy play sessions every day including paint, shaving foam and gloop! 
 
Week 14
This week we loved sharing our Christmas sensory story with mums, dads and grandparents. Some of us started singing some of the words to the songs and we loved the actions to them too. Thursday was our party day, where we played with balloons, danced the Hokey Cokey and iced biscuits for a special snack. We also played a version of pass the parcel, unwrapping layers to reveal two presents for the class to play with in the new year. From all the staff in Clover Class, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 
Week 1
 We have had an amazing week settling all the children into their new class. We have loved exploring the new spaces, especially the sensory room. We have all been great at eating in our new classroom and the studio (lunch room) and also at moving into the different rooms for different activities. We have all had a smile when we have sung songs and played music. This half term our topic is "All about Me". We started this by thinking about "My new Class". We are Clover class so we have looked at photographs of meadows of clover, had a sensory story of the "Billy Goats Gruff" and did lots of sensory painting with green paint to create a picture of a class meadow.
